Group Project
For this project, I had the opportunity to collaborate with impressive colleagues whose skills and knowledge greatly contributed to understanding the needs of a community that is nearly 98% Latino. My focus was identifying key issues and proposing effective solutions.
One major concern was community health. Our site was surrounded by fast-food restaurants, with only one location offering healthy meal-planning options. However, a few blocks north, a Sprouts market provides access to organic produce. Despite this, the prevalence of fast food remains a major contributor to health issues like diabetes—one of the most common health challenges among Hispanics.
Another critical issue was safety. The combination of limited access to nutritious food and unsafe surroundings has led to alarming rates of pre diabetes and depression among young children. Addressing these concerns is essential to improving the overall well-being of the community.
Proposed Area: Outdoor Classrooms & Therapeutic Garden
